Madawaska takes 2 from Houlton

HOULTON – The Madawaska Owls won both games of a softball doubleheader against the Houlton Shiretowners Saturday, winning the opener 23-16 and the second game 16-8.

In the first game, Kay Gerard hit a double and two singles for four RBIs to help lead Madawaska to victory.

Kelly Martin had a triple and two singles for two RBIs while Rosa Londono sent home three on a single and a double.

Anna Lenentine pounded out two homers, a triple and two singles for Houlton while Valorie Lenentine had three RBI singles and Claire Thompson added three singles.

In the second game, Londono led the Owls with two RBIs on two singles while Martin contributed with three singles.

Anna Lenentine hit a double and two singles for two RBIs while Valorie Lenentine added a triple and a single. Kasey Cleary and Thompson had two singles apiece for the Shiretowners.

At Bangor, Katie Frost struck out 11 and allowed no walks for Calais.

Alissa Thomas had a double with two RBIs. Frost hit a single with two RBIs. Lanna Martin had a triple and two RBIs for Calais.

Alicia Dwyer hit a pair of singles with one RBI. Erin Foster had two singles and a RBI. Amanda Fitzpatrick had a double with one RBI for Hodgdon.

Deer Isle-Stonington earns sweep

At Stonington, Deer Isle-Stonington had a strong inning in each of the games to earn a doubleheader sweep of Jonesport-Beals.

The Mariners won 16-11 in the first game and 14-6 in the second.

In the first game, Deer Isle-Stonington had 10 hits – including three doubles and a triple – in the first inning. Hollan Oliver hit a pair of singles and double with three RBIs. Lacy Greenlaw had four hits with three RBIs. Jen Hagerthy had three singles and a RBI for Deer Isle-Stonington.

Jody Pinkham hit a solo home run and a triple with three RBIs. Shafay Look had a trio of singles for Jonesport-Beals.

In the second game, the Mariners sent 16 batters to the plate in the fifth inning and scored 12 runs. They collected two triples, a home run and two doubles in the inning.

Heather Bray had a pair of triples and single with five RBIs. Heather Hutchinson had a two-run homer and single with two RBIs. Meghan Wiberg hit a solo home run and a single with two RBIs for Deer Isle.

Look had four hits with a RBI and Danielle Alley had three singles and one RBI for Jonesport-Beals.

At Bangor’s Mansfield Stadium Saturday night, senior lefty Matt Day fired a five-inning one-hitter, striking out 11 and not walking anybody, and his mates backed him with a 13-hit attack.

Bruce Currie had three singles for Hodgdon and Ben Carton tripled and singled.

Chris and Ben Blanchette had two singles each as did Ryan Callnan for Hodgdon.

Justin Donovan’s single was Calais’ lone hit.

DI-Stonington sweeps Royals

At Deer Isle, junior Evan Haskell dominated the second game, striking out 13 and walking just two in a three-hitter that completed a doubleheader sweep of Jonesport-Beals.

The Mariners won the first game 11-6 and the second 7-3.

In the first game, Jeff Douglass rapped three singles and drove in two runs for the Mariners. Chris Gray added two singles and an RBI and Joe Trundy had a single and three RBIs.

Daren Kelley drove in two runs with a single and a double for Jonesport-Beals. Kyle Mitchell rapped three singles and Billy Merchant had two.

In the second game, Trundy drilled a two-run homer and a double for the Mariners. Josh Eaton singled twice while Gray added a single and an RBI.

Jared Alley, Billy Merchant and Leland Faulkingham had a single apiece for the Royals.

At Dyer Brook, Matt Day pounded out a home run, a double and two singles to help lead Hodgdon past Southern Aroostook.

Chris Blanchette, Ryan Blanchette and Jeff Condon contributed two singles apiece for the Hawks.

Zack Austin, Corey Shields and Evan McGary each hit a double for the Warriors.

Brewer takes two from PI

At Brewer’s Heddericg Field, Matt Sargent’s run-scoring double and RBI singles by Jon Bell and Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian keyed a five-run third-inning rally that broke a 5-5 tie and capped a Brewer sweep 10-5. The Witches won the opener 7-1.

In the second game, Caleb McGary and Joel Barrett combined on a four-hitter. McGary went the first six before Barrett pitched a perfect seventh.

Bell had two singles and three RBIs; Sargent had a single to go with his double and Mike King and Bouzan-Kaloustian had two singles each. Joe Griffin had two RBIs on a base hit and sacrifice fly.

Fred Bird’s two-run single and Shane Clark’s double paced Presque Isle.

In the opener, righty Sean Collins pitched a five-hitter, striking out three and walking one, and Barrett knocked in three runs with a two-run homer and RBI triple.

Tony Doucette had two RBIs for the winners with a double and bases-loaded walk.

Clark singled twice for Presque Isle.

At Milo, Matt Mercer keyed a six-run second inning with a three-run double as the Vikings bounced back from a 4-0 deficit and rolled to the win.

Nick Dakin rapped three singles and drove in three runs for the Vikings while Drew Mercier added a double, a single and two RBIs. Spencer Garton struck out 10 en route to a complete-game win.

Mike Grindle and Jordan Allen stroked two singles each for Penquis. Grindle drove in two runs and Allen one.
