BANGOR – Starting Monday, June 17, American Eagle Airlines, a regional affiliate of American Airlines, will offer an additional round-trip nonstop jet flight between Bangor International Airport and New York City’s LaGuardia Airport.

American’s jet service to New York and to Boston from Bangor is flown on Embraer 37-seat regional jets. The jets are powered by two Rolls-Royce engines and are among the quietest airplanes in the world.

“We are very pleased with the new commitment American is making to our region by providing additional jet service to New York City,” Bangor Mayor Michael Crowley said. “Additional jet service to the financial capital of the world is critical to our efforts to grow the region’s economy.”

BIA now offers jet service on 75 percent of all its flights, which is a significant achievement for a regional airport of its size and location, BIA Director Rebecca Hupp said.

“The continuing increases in jet flights and passenger growth at [BIA] speaks to the growing viability of our market,” she said.

BIA is a full-service regional airport offering flights to Baltimore/Washington D.C., Boston, Cincinnati, Orlando, Philadelphia, New York City, Portland, St. Pete/Clearwater, San Juan, Freeport Bahamas, Naples, Atlantic City and Portsmouth, N.H.

The airport is operated by the city of Bangor and is solely supported through airport generated revenue.
