Destination ImagiNation team to compete in world competition

BANGOR – A team of fourth- and fifth-graders from Mary Snow School in Bangor is headed for the Destination ImagiNation World Championships in Knoxville, Tenn., May 22-25. Their category is “Strandid,” and they have been meeting twice a week since October to craft a solution to the problem they chose to solve.

The problem is this – they are stranded inside a cookbook and must find a way to get out, according to coach Mike Cormier, who has served as Destination ImagiNation city coordinator for six years. This involves a skit in which the pupils use three simple machines – a wheel and axle, a rope and pulley and an inclined plane – to aid their escape. They also use a lot of duct tape, Cormier said.

Team members are fourth graders Erika Keller, Ben Rapaport and Cody Cormier, and fifth graders Katie Brountas, Kailey McKenna. Blaine Tobin and Devon McKinnon.

Jim Tobin also coaches the team.
