MOUNT DESERT ISLAND – Honor parts for the 34th commencement at the Mount Desert Island High School have been announced by Principal Robert Liebow.

Graduation will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 14, at the Bernard Parady Gymnasium.

Annie Hewlett, daughter of John and Betsy Hewlett of Town Hill, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2002. She will attend Wesleyan College in Middletown, Conn.

Hewlett has a passion for the performing arts. She is a member of the Robinson Ballet Company and participates in community theater. She has been a varsity indoor-outdoor track captain. She has been an intern at Island Connections, a volunteer organization.

Da Chang, son of Bo Chang and Jie Ping Wang of Bar Harbor, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2002. He will attend Harvard College to study biology with plans to become a doctor.

Chang has excelled at soccer, indoor and outdoor track throughout high school. He has been involved in the music program, student council, National Honor Society, and the student leadership program. He has been a two-year intern at The Jackson Laboratory in Bar Harbor.
