PALM COAST, Fla. – The Husson College golf team struggled a bit compared to the rest of the field Thursday in the NAIA Men’s Golf National Championship.

Husson posted a team total 318 Thursday at Matanzas Woods Golf Club and fell to 20th place in the 27-team event with a three-day score of 956.

Defending champion Oklahoma City University posted a 307 for a 900 total and maintained its four-stroke lead over Berry College of Mount Berry, Ga.

Tyrone Van Aswegen of Oklahoma City shot a 2-over-par 74 Thursday and remains the individual leader by a stroke at 218.

Senior Joe Alvarez of Veazie continues to lead the way for the Braves, recording a 76 Thursday for 226 and moved into a tie for 12th.

Senior Corey Pion of Vassalboro and sophomores Shane Ross of Pittsfield and Joe Finemore of Augusta are all at 244. Pion shot an 81, Ross 78, and Finemore 83.

Senior Bill Hutchins of Bangor also shot an 83 for 252.

The tournament’s final round is today.
