VAN BUREN – The National Tree Trust has awarded the town of Van Buren a 2002 Community Tree Planting Grant. The grant consists of 600 tree seedlings that will be planted in the community.

NTT’s Community Tree Planting program makes it possible for community groups to plant trees on public land and along roadsides with the aid of volunteers. It supplies 1-year-old, regionally appropriate native tree seedlings, 3-gallon plastic containers and a subsidy for soil.

NTT is a nonprofit organization committed to helping people work together to improve their local communities through tree planting and education. Some of the trees to be planted were purchased by NTT and some were donated by NTT’s partnering forest product companies. As the trees grow, they will provide economic, environmental and social benefits to the community.
