GUILFORD – Freshman Mike Burnett hit two home runs, including the game-winner with one out in the seventh inning and the score tied, as the Piscataquis baseball team edged Penobscot Valley 4-3 Friday in high school action.

Burnett had connected for a two-run homer in the second inning to give Piscataquis the early lead. He also pitched a five-hitter, striking out six and walking one. Ben Smith had a triple and a single while Buddy Bates had an RBI single in the fifth for the Pirates.

Keith Champion and Joe Cyr had two singles and an RBI apiece for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Millinocket, Terry Joyce hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to pull Penquis of Milo ahead and give the Patriots the win.

Steve Kissell hit two singles with two RBIs for Penquis.

Chris Poirier had two singles with three RBIs for Stearns. Dave Michaud and Anthony Arsenault each had two singles and one RBI an Greg Kranich doubled.

At Hampden, Justin Veazie hit a double and knocked in a run for Nokomis of Newport. Brian Gee hit a single with a RBI.

Eric Libby hit a single and scored Hampden’s only run on a Matt Jackson ground out.

At Belfast, Devin Potvin’s second RBI of the game won the game for the Lions in the bottom of the ninth inning.

Potvin hit a grounder to second base where the Raiders of Sabbatus forced one out but missed turning the double play at first base, allowing the winning run to cross the plate. Potvin also had RBI single in the third inning. Ben Cowan added a double and single for the Lions.

Pat Dachette led the Raiders with two doubles and an RBI and Jeremy Durmond added a single and a double. Jason Guerette hit an RBI single in the sixth inning.

At Waldoboro, Scott Blackler’s two-run single in the bottom of the third inning helped the Panthers of Waldoboro break open a 3-3 tie.

Blackler added a single and finished with three RBIs. Jon Burns and Mike Beardsley each knocked in two RBIs with a single and double for Medomak Valley. Carlos Arteaga singled twice.

Adam McCallen hit two singles and Casey Leupin added a double, triple and two RBIs for the Shipbuilders of Bath.

At Pittsfield, Megan Ferland hit a two-run double in the first inning and added a triple as the Huskies edged the Tigers.

Autumn Hendricks doubled and drove in a run for Maine Central Institute and Heidi Long singled twice and drove in a run. The MCI defense also threw out two Rockland runners at the plate.

Lindsey Grant led the Tigers with a double and a single. Caitlin Grant singled twice.

Greenville sweeps Windham Chr.

At Greenville, Lauren Dallam racked up four singles, two doubles and an RBI to lead the Lakers to a sweep of the Warriors. Greenville won the opener 24-12 and the nightcap 16-3.

Darcie Larsen hit a solo home run to help the Lakers to a 24-12 win in the second game of a doubleheader. Greenville beat the Warriors 16-3 in the opener.

In the first game, Greenville’s Diane Aucoin hit three singles with two RBIs. Angie Buono hit a triple and a single with one RBI for Windham Christian.

In the second game, Darcie Larsen sparked the Lakers with a solo home run. Crystal Ferris added three singles and a double with three RBIs. Randy Varney and Lisa Moesel each had a double and a single with one RBI for the Warriors.

At Millinocket, Kristina Mackenzie fired a two-hitter with five strikeouts and 2 walks as the Minutemen rolled to the win.

Casey Popp led Stearns with a single and a two-run triple in the sixth. Leslie Osborne and Becca Saucier each pounded out three singles. Jordan Legassey and Brandie Michaud hit two singles apiece.

Michelle Mulherin singled and scored the only run for the Patriots of Milo. Kristin Lee also singled.

At Guilford, Caterina Riitano hit a grand slam in the sixth inning to help the Pirates top the Howlers.

Riitano, who also singled, finished with six RBIs. Stephanie Wentworth had four singles with three RBIs. Karole-Anne Emery hit a triple and two singles with four RBIs for Piscataquis.

Meagan Cyr hit a trio of singles with three RBIs. Krystal Levesque had two singles with three RBIs for Penobscot Valley of Howland.

At Hampden, the Broncos ended a six-game losing streak as Katie Lindemann struck out five through seven innings.

Cheryl Morris hit two singles, including an RBI single in the fourth that proved to be the game-winner. Lindemann also singled. Kristina Spaulding plated Hampden’s first run of the game with a sacrifice fly and Evon Hudspeth added two singles and an RBI.

Tia Beauregard led the Warriors of Newport with an RBI single and Aimee Paradis drove in a run with a sacrifice fly. Danielle Clark and Joyce Holland each singled.

At Belfast, Morgan Crandall had three hits and drove in four runs as the Lions rolled past the Raiders.

Crandall’s two-run triple in the third inning broke open a close game. She followed with another two-run triple in the sixth. Crandall also singled. Kim Walker had a pair of singles for Belfast.

Christie Rines singled twice and Angie Berube had a triple for Oak Hill of Sabbatus.

At Searsport, Liz Tyler drove in two-runs with a single and the Eagles took advantage of Searsport errors to score eight runs in the top of the eighth inning en route to the win.

Sarah Clapp paced George Stevens of Blue Hill with four singles and two RBIs. Jen Freilimo knocked in two runs on three singles. Nickie Boutin had five singles and an RBI, Nikki Keniston had a double, three singles and drove in a run.

Searsport’s Lura Carroll doubled and had two singles and an RBI. Lindsey Seekins hit a double, a singled and drove in two runs. Heather Ruby drove in a pair of runs on two singles and Sheila Wilbur doubled, singled and plated two RBIs. TaraLee Webster doubled, singled and drove in a run and Sarah Cook hit three singles.

At Corinth, Nicole Labby, Terri Underhill and Renee Trafton each provided an RBI to help erase a one-run deficit in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Red Devils captured the win.

Jenny Rollins led Central with a triple, two singles and three RBIs. Underhill finished with two singles an RBI and Jody Harvey added a triple.
