Man faces 2nd charge of witness tampering

LINCOLN – For the second time in a month, a Lincoln man has been charged with tampering with a witness in connection with a July pickup truck fire.

Sgt. Stu Jacobs, a fire investigation supervisor for the State Fire Marshal’s Office, said Monday that Matthew Miller, 18, was charged with one count of tampering with a witness, a class C felony, and with violating conditions of his release.

Last month, Ed Archer, a state fire investigator, charged Miller with one count of tampering with a witness in connection with the pickup truck fire last July. He was also charged with two counts of burglary, a class B felony, in connection with camp break-ins in Webster Plantation in February.

Ed Archer, a fire investigator, and Brian Strout, a Maine State Police detective, arrested Miller late Monday afternoon in Lincoln. Miller was taken to the Penobscot County Jail, where he was being held without bail.

“This is a new criminal offense because of new recent conduct,” Jacobs said. “Certainly, we take this kind of conduct very, very seriously and make every effort to respond to it immediately.”
