State drug agents seized heroin and prescription medications from inside a Bangor home Monday evening, arresting one man.
Jason Ashlock, 23, of Bangor was charged with trafficking in a Schedule W drug, specifically heroin, and the investigation is continuing, said Sgt. Garry Higgins, supervisory special agent for the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency. Agents could file additional charges against Ashlock or others, he said.
Authorities searched the back apartment at 79 Fourth St. after being issued a search warrant earlier in the day. Higgins said the search warrant stemmed from an investigation into alleged drug activity involving Ashlock.
An hour into the search, agents were still assessing what they had found, although Higgins said they seized at least 20 bags of heroin, which he estimated had a street value of $500 to $800.
Higgins also said investigators seized an undisclosed amount of cash, pills and materials he said were used in trafficking in heroin.
Authorities executed the search warrant about 7:15 p.m., and shortly after 8 p.m. handcuffed Ashlock by the back steps and placed him in a police cruiser.
Ashlock was taken to Penobscot County Jail on the felony charge and remained there Monday evening on a bail of $10,000 personal recognizance.
A Bangor man was charged with assaulting his girlfriend and threatening her with a knife early Monday.
Authorities went to an apartment at 178 First St. about 4:20 a.m. after an emergency call to the police station was disconnected, although a woman was heard screaming in the background before the call was cut off, according to the police.
Bangor police officers found Joseph McCoy, 41, sitting on the steps outside the apartment while his girlfriend remained inside, apparently fearful that he would return and kill her, as he claimed he would, reported Officer George Spencer.
What began as an argument turned physical, first as she tried to climb out an upstairs window and then later downstairs where the argument moved into the kitchen.
The woman told Spencer that McCoy grabbed her by the arms and tried to choke her. She also said that he took a knife from the sink and held it to her throat and told her that he knew how to stab her, according to the police report.
She said she tried to call the police, at one point, but that McCoy disconnected the phone.
The woman had bruises on her arms and, she said, on her upper right thigh. McCoy denied anything had happened that night and claimed the bruises were from a previous night.
He was charged with domestic assault, criminal threatening with a weapon and obstructing report of a crime.
A Florida man driving from Connecticut to Maine was arrested in Brewer after authorities determined he had been driving intoxicated and without a license.
Nearing the completion of a trip from Milford, Conn., to the Stable Inn in Brewer, Michael Heiy, 48, stopped in Bangor for directions. The person giving him directions suspected that Heiy was intoxicated and contacted authorities.
Brewer Sgt. Jay Munson arrived at the Stable Inn, 448 Wilson St., as Heiy was parking his pickup truck and trailer. Munson said he spoke to Heiy, who admitted to drinking earlier.
Munson said Heiy failed field sobriety tests and was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants and for operating a motor vehicle without a license.
Apparently, Heiy’s license in his home state was suspended.
