LEWISTON – Mike Michaud, a Democratic candidate for the 2nd Congressional District seat, is blaming a computer virus for a flurry of unwanted e-mail from his campaign.
Michaud’s campaign issued an apology Monday for sending campaign e-mail to people who do not support his candidacy.
“Somebody sent us a virus,” said campaign manager Peter Chandler. “The problem’s been fixed.”
Chandler explained that whenever someone asked to be removed from the mailing list, the virus apparently sent eight more campaign e-mails. Some people who received the e-mail were unhappy about it.
“This caused a great disturbance,” Chandler said. “Our campaign takes great effort to only send stuff to people who want it.”
Michaud of East Millinocket is a former president of the state Senate.
