MILBRIDGE – Fiddle Box, five musicians who play traditional music, will perform during the fifth Al Bryon Memorial Concert at the Milbridge Congregational Church on June 2.
Members of the group that will perform at the 3 p.m. free concert are Don Roy, fiddle; Kevin McElroy, mandolin, tenor banjo and vocals; Stuart McConnell, accordion; Cindy Roy, piano and step dancing; and Jay Young, string bass.
Don Roy is a champion fiddler with special interest in Franco-American traditional music. He directed The Maine French Fiddlers, and his 2000 recording, “Thanks for the Lift”, features reels, jigs, marches, polkas and waltzes from various traditions. The other members of Fiddle Box, including Roy’s wife, Cindy, played on the recording.
McElroy has played Irish music since his teen-age years and has studied traditional singing with some of Ireland’s finest performers.
The annual concerts in memory of Al Bryon, a 28-year-old Steuben man who died in 1997, have been endowed by his four children.
