An Old Town motorcyclist escaped serious injury when a Jeep pulled in front of her on North Main Street on Tuesday afternoon, Old Town officials said.

Kristy Metzgar, 23, had been traveling toward downtown on her Kawasaki Ninja motorcycle when a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by Julene Britt, 29, of Bangor drove out of a parking lot, Old Town police Officer Seth Bear said. Metzgar had been riding at around 25 mph and forced her motorcycle into a slide on its left side to avoid a serious collision.

The front tire of the motorcycle struck the Jeep, Bear said. Damage to the motorcycle was estimated at $1,000, while the Jeep was not damaged.

Metzgar was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, where she was treated briefly, the officer said. Britt was not injured.

Charges are pending, Bear said.

A Holden man was hospitalized after his car was destroyed when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road, police said.

Mark VanHorn, 32, suffered a cracked pelvis after his 1993 GMC Sonoma crashed into a telephone pole on Copeland Hill Road in Holden just before 2 a.m. Friday, VanHorn’s mother, Nancy VanHorn, said Tuesday. He was released from Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor on Monday.

The accident occurred two miles from Eastern Avenue, Maine State Police Trooper Seth Edwards said Tuesday evening. VanHorn had been driving the Sonoma when he swerved to avoid a deer in the road and drove down an embankment before striking a tree.

VanHorn was wearing a seat belt, Edwards said.

A Greenbush man and a Milford woman refused treatment after the pickup truck they were in went off the side of the County Road in Milford and rolled over, police said.

Lawrence Shirland, 32, had been driving the 1996 GMC pickup west on the County Road when the accident occurred, Maine State Police Trooper Seth Edwards said. The truck went down an embankment and rolled over.

Shirland and Christina Lizotte, 19, suffered minor injuries, Edwards said. Both were wearing seat belts.
