Patten’s single rallies Eagles to victory

VAN BUREN – Derek Patten hit a two-run single in the top of the seventh inning that plated the eventual game-winning run Tuesday as Limestone rallied for an 11-9 baseball victory over Van Buren.

Eric Johnson walked and Steve Hardwick hit a ground-rule double to set up Patten’s hit. Abe Williams followed with an RBI double.

Van Buren loaded the bases with one out in the ninth, but didn’t score. Stacy Ayotte powered the Crusaders with a three-run homer and a solo homer. Andrew Martin had two singles and a sacrifice bunt (2 RBIs).

At Dyer Brook, Jeff Clockedile rapped three singles, including a two-run single in the sixth that provided the final margin of victory for Southern Aroostook.

Jason Woodworth singled twice for the Warriors. Bryan Grew struck out eight and walked one in his complete-game effort.

Matt McCluskey stroked two singles with an RBI for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Jared Grant added a double.

At Hodgdon, the Hawks managed only two hits but took advantage of seven errors while beating the Cougars.

Matt Day, Jeff Condon and Ryan Callnan combined to strike out 10 for Hodgdon. Ben Carton and Chris Blanchette singled for the winners.

Orono sweeps Caribou

At Orono, Bo Thomas and Ryan Levesque drilled back-to-back home runs in the first inning of the first game to help jumpstart the Red Riots’ doubleheader sweep. Orono won the opener 10-9 and the second game 5-4.

In the first game, Thomas smacked a three-run homer, two singles and knocked in three for the Riots. Levesque added his homer and a two-run single.

Jerry Shanahan collected four RBIs for the Vikings with a three-run homer, a double and a single. Nick Chasse added a solo home run and two RBIs.

In the second game, freshman Dusty Thomas tossed a complete-game six-hitter to earn the pitching win and drove in the eventual game-winner with a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Shanahan roped a two-run double and a single for Caribou.

At Orono, Amy Bouchard knocked in three runs with two triples and two singles in the first game, helping Caribou earn a split of a doubleheader with Orono.

The Vikings won the opener 18-14 while the Red Riots took the nightcap 15-12.

In the first game, Melissa Brissette singled twice behind winner Simone Willette. Chelsea Sherman paced Orono with a triple, two singles and three RBIs.

In Game 2, Sherman’s double and two singles (RBI) led the Riots’ 17-hit attack.

Molly Bell sparked the Vikings with a double and two singles (RBI). Michelle Snow tripled and singled, while Bouchard and Jessica Cyr contributed two singles each. All three had two RBIs.

At Eastport, Rachelle Parker pitched a no-hitter, striking out seven, walking 10 and hitting two batters, in a five-inning game.

Sarah Beal paced Jonesport-Beals with a single and four RBIs, while Shafay Look, Naomi Chandler and Jody Pinkham contributed a single and two RBIs apiece for the Royalettes.

Brittany Lingley scattered five hits and struck out six for Shead.

At Fort Kent, Meaghan Minzy reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second and third, and scored the game-winning run on a one-out infield error in the bottom of the seventh.

Nicole Saucier drove in three runs with a single and a double for Fort Kent while Ashley Pelletier added two singles and an RBI. Mindy Morneault doubled in two runs. The Warriors rallied for six runs in the final two innings to eliminate a 10-5 deficit.

Angel Rideout collected three RBIs on a double and a single for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill. Stevie Fletcher doubled and singled twice.

Danielle Gagnon drove in four runs with two triples and a single for Van Buren. Chelsea Ouellette added three singles and Nicole Corbin had two singles.

At Hodgdon, Amanda Fitzpatrick rocked two triples, two singles and pushed across six runs as the Hawks cruised.

Nadine Bouchard’s two-run single in the first paced the Tigerettes.
