ORONO – Bo Thomas and Ryan Levesque drilled back-to-back home runs in the first inning of the first game to help jumpstart the Orono Red Riots’ doubleheader sweep over the Caribou Vikings in schoolboy baseball action Tuesday.
Orono won the opener 10-9 and the second game 5-4.
In the first game, Thomas smacked a three-run homer, two singles and knocked in three for the Riots. Levesque added his homer and a two-run single while Tim Hilton socked a three-run homer and a single. Mike Merritt doubled and singled and Jeff Miller singled twice.
Jerry Shanahan collected four RBIs for the Vikings with a three-run homer, a double and a single. Nick Chasse added a solo home run and two RBIs.
In the second game, freshman Dusty Thomas tossed a complete-game six-hitter to earn the pitching win and drove in the eventual game-winner with a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Miller and Pat Skall rapped two singles apiece for the Riots.
Shanahan roped a two-run double and a single for Caribou.

Dexter splits with Hermon
At Hermon, each team got balanced hitting in splitting a baseball doubleheader, with the Hawks winning the first game 6-3, and Dexter the second 8-6.
In the first game, Matt Wilson sparked Hermon with a double, single and two RBIs. Jason Shorey laced an RBI double, and Phil Cayford had an RBI single.
Ross Morrison had a single, double and two RBIs. Adam Russell singled twice and Matt Mountain doubled.
In the second game, Russell sparked Dexter with a triple, two singles and four RBIs.
Eric Cooley had two singles and an RBI and Morrison rapped an RBI single.
Cayford jolted a solo shot for the Hawks and Reid Frye had an RBI single.

At Newport, Joel Barrett roped two doubles and drove in four runs as the Witches rolled past Nokomis.
Matt Sargent provided two doubles, Joe Griffin singled twice with an RBI and Kevin McAvoy laced a two-run triple. Zach Bouzan-Kaloustian singled twice.
Brandon Gee and Josh Vile had a single each for the Warriors.

At Mount Desert, the Golden Bucks pounded out 16 hits en route to the win.
Abram Allard led Bucksport with a triple, two singles and three RBIs. Adam Sheehan smacked a triple and a single with an RBI. Jason Harvey and Jake King each posted two singles and two RBIs.
MDI’s Brad Dalton singled twice and drove in a run. Travis Tripp earned an RBI on a sacrifice fly.

Brody Artes sparked the winners with a two-run single. Nick Ware and Joey Cyr had a single each.
Mike Albers roped a pair of singles for the Wolverines. Adam Dempsey, Drew Fayle and Brad Hebert had a single each.

At Dexter, Karen Nelson laced a triple, a double and pushed across two runs as the Tigers prevailed.
Cindy Koscielny singled, doubled and knocked in a run for Dexter. Brittany Veazie had two singles and two RBIs, and Sarah Carnes had two singles.
Erin Lucey collected a triple, single and RBI to pace the Hawks. Rachel Nightengale provided two singles.

Tanya Kane doubled for the Trojans and Bracey Barker singled.

At Howland, the Wolverines of East Millinocket scored all their runs in the first three innings and survived the Howlers’ three-run fifth-inning uprising en route to the win.

At Bangor, Jen Jimmo scattered five hits with six strikeouts, and added a double, a single and an RBI, as the Rams earned their 11th win.
Jamie Kowalski, who got a start as a designated hitter, was 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI. Stephanie Chase drove in three runs on a double and a single. Megan Huckins tripled and singled, Ashley Tower hit two singles with an RBI and Rachael Dube doubled.
Katie Lindemann led the Broncos with two doubles.

Caribou, Orono split
At Orono, Amy Bouchard knocked in three runs with two triples and two singles in the first game, helping Caribou earn a split of a doubleheader with Orono.
The Vikings won the opener 18-14 while the Red Riots took the nightcap 15-12.
In the first game, Melissa Brissette singled twice behind winner Simone Willette.
Chelsea Sherman paced Orono with a triple, two singles and three RBIs. Felicia King doubled and singled (2 RBIs), while Stacy Scott, Sarah Scott and Trisha Burke provided two singles and two RBIs apiece behind loser Michelle Benoit, who struck out 11.
In Game 2, Sherman’s double and two singles (RBI) led the Riots’ 17-hit attack. Sarah Scott stroked three singles and Molly Dupere plated three runs with a triple and a single.
Hilary See (2 RBIs), Amie Thomas (RBI) and Emily Reed (RBI) added two hits apiece.
Molly Bell sparked the Vikings with a double and two singles (RBI). Michelle Snow tripled and singled, while Bouchard and Jessica Cyr contributed two singles each. All three had two RBIs.

Michelle Boutilier sparked the Warriors with three singles while Megan McLaughlin and Christine Brewer had two each.
