Brown, Rand, Goody, Tidwell, Dupuis lead Old Town past Brewer

OLD TOWN – Ryan Brown fired a five-hit shutout to lead the Old Town Indians to a 5-0 schoolboy baseball victory over the Brewer Witches Wednesday.

Brown, a 6-foot-3 junior righthander, struck out 13 and walked only two.

Chris Rand belted a solo homer for Old Town. Brad Goody laced an RBI double, Shaun Tidwell had two singles, and Kyle Dupuis had a double and two singles.

Matt Sargent roped two doubles for Brewer.

At Orono, Bo Thomas and Ryan Levesque drilled back-to-back homers for the second straight day as the Riots cruised.

Jeff Miller belted two doubles and a triple and drove in five runs for the Red Riots. Derek Sinclair added two singles and Brandon Terrill limited Nokomis to just three hits in his first start of the year. Levesque followed Thomas’ two-run homer with his own blast.

Justin Nichols doubled and scored for the Warriors of Newport.

At Belfast, Marcus Colby slammed a two-run homer to help lift the Lions to victory.

Ben Cowan and Matt Olson had two singles each for the winners. Jesse Johnson laced a single and a double, and Nick Arthurs had two singles and knocked in two runs.

Kenton Spaulding roped a triple for the Mustangs of Thorndike. Howard Whitcomb had two singles.

At Blue Hill, Ryan Hutchins smacked a two-run homer to go with a double as the host Eagles soared to their 13th win.

Mark Clapp roped a triple, three singles and drove in a run for George Stevens. Hans Reuter had two singles to go with an RBI.

Chris Gross laced an RBI double for the Mariners and Bennett Gray had an RBI single.

At Searsport, Drew Mercier and Marcus Quisberry each recorded a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to rally the Vikings past the Patriots.

Nick Dakin paced the Vikings with a two-run home run and two singles and Spencer Garton added a double and two singles. Matt Mercer chipped in with two doubles, Mercier had three singles and Pasco Grove had two singles.

Matt Turgeon singled twice for BC and Tyler Wilson had a two-run single.

At Houlton, the Shiretowners jumped out to a 5-0 lead after three innings and went on to the win over the Minutemen.

Jared Sylvia had four singles and three runs batted in to lead Houlton. Erik O’Connell, Ben Pierce, Derek Dow and Ryan Schools had two singles apiece for the Shiretowners.

Dave Michaud singled twice and drove in two runs for Stearns of Millinocket.

At Rockport, Jared Lemieux struck out eight batters, walked two and allowed eight hits to lead Maranacook of Readfield.

Seth Emery paced the Black Bears with four singles. Rob Cloutier and Dan Lake each had a double and a single.

Peter Moro doubled and singled while Brady Butler had two singles for the host Windjammers, who scored four of the seven earned runs Lemieux has allowed this season.

At Harrington, Kyle Joy allowed eight hits and his teammates totaled 14 to help lift Sumner of East Sullivan past Narraguagus.

Blake Alley doubled twice and Justin Winslow had a double and a single to pace Sumner. Dustin Young singled twice.

Adam Tenan doubled and singled for the Knights while Sabin Rossi and Gabe Checker each doubled.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor, John Bapst’s Billy Chapman allowed two hits, notched 10 strikeouts, and issued two walks to hold Hermon in check.

Andy Tremble went 3-for-4 at the plate with four RBIs to lead the Crusaders. Zac Means and Tyler Johnson each singled twice while Zev Myerowitz hit a two-run triple.

Sixth-inning singles by Brett Danforth and Jessy Murphy broke up Chapman’s no-hit bid.

At Orono, Delainie Farnham pitched a four-hitter and Danielle Clark had a triple, double, and four RBIs to lead Nokomis of Newport past the Red Riots.

Amy Paradis hit a three-run home run, singled, and knocked in four runs while Kaycea Grignon had two singles and two RBIs for the Warriors.

Molly Dupere tripled in a run and Chelsea Sherman doubled for the Red Riots.

Kasse Brown drilled two doubles and a single for the Lynx. Laci Whitney added two singles.

At Old Town, two freshmen helped the Witches earn their 12th victory.

Pitcher Sarah DeFilipp was aided by a strong defense while she didn’t allow a walk and struck out four. Classmate Anna Corey drove in the winning run in the sixth inning and singled twice. DeFilipp also added two singles.

Jill Ouellette and Erin Sherman each had two singles for Old Town. Hard-luck losing pitcher Sarah Metivier struck out 11 and allowed only three walks.

At the Husson College field in Bangor, Ada Athorp allowed only two hits in five innings while striking out seven and walking one for the Crusaders.

Amelia Mitchell-Storer tripled, singled and drove in a run for the winners and Ashley Cluff added a two-run double. Rebecca Stevens singled twice.

Erin Lucey and Jodi Reynolds each singled for Hermon.

At Searsport, the Vikings once again rode the strong right arm of TaraLee Webster, who fired a two-hit shutout, fanning 13 and walking only three.

Webster also contributed three singles for the winners. Sheila Wilbur had a double and a single.

Heather Niles singled for the Patriots. Kara Hartman struck out nine and walked four in the loss.
