Maine BPW schedules convention in Caribou

CARIBOU – Caribou will be the site of the 81st Annual Convention of the Maine Federation of Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. May 31-June 2 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.

Business meetings will be held throughout the weekend to approve a budget, act on recommendations, resolutions and bylaws, and adopt a legislative platform. The members also will consider national issues from BPW-USA in preparation for the National BPW Conference to be held in New Orleans July 9-12. The current state president, Geri Martin of Caribou BPW, will conduct the business sessions Friday and Saturday.

On Saturday morning, the 2002 Young Careerist Speak-Off will be held with candidates from the various state districts competing for the state title. The winner will go on to compete at the national level.

On Saturday evening, a banquet will be held and state officers will be installed. The BPW-USA national representative, Cindy Patterson-Young, national president-elect, will conduct the formal installation ceremony.

Convention organizers, Vernette King and Burnette Bowker of Fort Kent BPW, have organized a Saturday evening auction to be held after the installation ceremony at the Caribou Inn. Many items will be auctioned and the public is invited to attend. Proceeds will benefit the State Futurama Scholarship Foundation.
