Searsport District High School
SEARSPORT – Principal Arthur Wittine has announced the honor parts for the Class of 2002. Commencement exercises will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 16, at Searsport District High School.
Scott Ward, son of Lynda and Baxter Ward of Searsport, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2002. He plans to attend the University of Maine to study business.
He participated in junior varsity and varsity boys basketball for all four years, varsity boys soccer his senior year, junior varsity and varsity baseball his freshman, sophomore and senior years. He received the Maine Principals’ Award his senior year and is involved with Who’s Who. Ward was a member of the National Junior Honor Society and school newspaper and was chosen for Boys State his junior year. He plays baritone in the school band.
Katherine Plourde, daughter of Deborah and Charles Plourde of Searsport, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2002. She plans to attend the University of Maine to study music education.
She is a member of the National Honor Society and serves as treasurer of that organization. She is class treasurer and was vice president of her class her freshman year. She was involved with Who’s Who her junior and senior years. She was a member of Peer Helpers, National Junior Honor Society and Student Leadership. Plourde participated in varsity girls soccer all four years and earned a letter. She played clarinet in the band for four years and was band president. She was a member of the chorus her freshman year. She was in the District V Festival the last three years, was a Girls State alternate and a HOBY alternate. During her sophomore year she tutored middle-school students. She is a member of her church youth group and is a Sunday school helper.
First honor part is Lura Carroll, daughter of Catherine and Rudolph Carroll of Searsport. She plans to attend the University of Maine to study chemical engineering.
She is a member of the National Honor Society. She was a member of the National Junior Honor Society, newspaper club, foreign language club and yearbook club and was involved in Student Leadership. She participated in varsity basketball, varsity softball and soccer for four years. She was student of the month in December of her sophomore year.
Second honor part is Nicholas Brazier, son of Lourdes and Jeffrey Brazier of Searsport. He plans to attend the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor to study biology.
He participated in dramatics his last three years of high school, including one-act plays and the senior play in which he participated in acting, set design and production. He was a member of chorus his freshman year and computer club the last three years. He participated in Boys State and the Kaplan Course his junior year. Brazier is involved in his church group and has volunteered to help the food cupboard.
