ROCKLAND – Rockland’s Parker Tootill won a pitcher’s duel with Lincoln Academy’s Richie Powell as he allowed three hits and struck out nine in a 2-0 baseball victory over Lincoln Academy of Newcastle here Friday.

Powell allowed four hits, but walked two Rockland batters with the bases loaded in the second inning for the Tigers’ only two runs of the game. Casey Kenniston got on base with a double and scored a run to lead Rockland. John Bonney, Brian Toothaker and Mike Curtis each singles for the Tigers. Larry Baker scored a run as a pinch runner.

Patrick Howell, Mike Harrington and Eric Gimbel each singled for the Eagles of Newcastle.

At Penobscot Valley, Jeff Douglass hit a pair of singles with two RBIs to help Deer Isle past Penobscot Valley.

Chris Gross hit two singles for Deer Isle.

Trey Miller had a double and a single with one RBI to provide two of Penobscot Valley’s four hits.

Orono 7, Hermon 4

At Orono, sophomore righty Ryan Levesque hurled a six-hitter and had a two-run single in a four-run third-inning rally that erased a 4-2 deficit and gave Orono the lead for good.

Jeff Miller, Bo Thomas, Levesque and Pat Skall had consecutive singles in the third. An error and wild pitch produced the final two runs.

Miller had three singles and Levesque had two singles and three RBIs for Orono, which has won four in a row. Mike Merritt hit a solo homer in the sixth.

Brett Danforth had a two-run homer for Hermon.

At Dover-Foxcroft, the Pirates made a final surge and scored five runs in the top of the seventh inning after trailing by six, but Josh Withee came on in relief to strike out the final batter and end the game.

Ben Smith and Josh Luellen each had RBIs in the seventh to help the Piscataquis Community High School efforts. Smith finished with two singles, a double and an RBI. John Luellen and Ben Stearns each doubled for the Pirates.

Withee singled and had an RBI double for the Ponies and Aaron Sutton connected for a double and an RBI single in the win. Danny White added an RBI double for Foxcroft Academy. Rob Crocker struck out nine batters in 6 1/3 innings for the win.

At Lincoln, Fred Pete’s two-run double and a solo home run by Steven Whitney sparked a six run second inning for the Lynx to secure the victory.

Pete added an RBI double and Nathan Cousineau singled twice as Mattanawcook Academy of Lincoln notched its 15th win of the season.

Adam Russel led Dexter with a double and an RBI single and Mike Martin got on base with a pair of singles. Brian Hersey doubled for the Tigers.

At Lincoln, Kara Nelson pitched a four-hitter to lead the Dexter Tigers past Mattanawcook Academy.

Sarah Wyman doubled and singled for the Tigers. Sarah Carnes and Amanda Pullen singled twice.

Chelsey Nicastro hit an RBI single while Jill Murchison, Lyndsey Shorey, and Cassie Brown each singled for the Lynx.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Greta Korsman and Kristen Roy each went 3-for-4 with three singles to lead Piscataquis of Guilford past the Foxcroft Academy Ponies.

Stephanie Wentworth had a double, a single and three RBIs.

Darcy McCormick had a double and three RBIs while Mandi Murray tripled in a run.

At Milo, Kristin Lee hit a double and three singles with three RBIs. Nicole Nason and Ashley Pelletier each had a single with one RBI for Penquis.

At Stearns, Kate Bridges and Liz Tyler each hit two singles for George Stevens Academy. Sarah Clapp had three walks and three runs.

At Husson College in Bangor, Kim Meagher paced the Crusaders with three singles and three RBIs as John Bapst upset the Golden Bucks.

Bucksport suffered its second loss of the season as John Bapst’s Ada Athorp struck out two in the win. Nikki Novak added two singles for the Crusaders and Meghan Brown had two singles and an RBI.

Tara Tweedie struck out one for the Golden Bucks and also had three singles and an RBI. Ashley McAllian got on base with a double for Bucksport.

At Belfast, after combining for six runs in the first inning the Eagles and the Lions were held scoreless by solid opposing pitching in a battle of two of Class B’s best.

Joni Bechard struck out one through three innings and Katie Mainville struck out seven in four innings of relief work for Erskine of South China, while Belfast’s Morgan Crandall struck out six for the win.

Linda Horack and Cally Thomas each notched RBI singles for the Eagles in the top of the first too go up 2-0. Melissa Brown knocked in a run on a fielder’s choice, Sara Flagg connected for a two-run double and Angela marden hit a sacrifice-fly into left field as Belfast captured the lead for the first and final time of the contest.

Lauren Overlock hasd two singles for Belfast and Melissa Gray got on base with a double. Mainville led Erskine with three singles and a run scored and Linda Horack had two singles and an RBI.

Greenville takes two from Averill

At Hinckley, Darcie Larsen pitched both ends of Friday’s doubleheader against Averill and notched two wins, 15-0 and 29-3.

Larsen struck out eight batters in a combined 10 innings of work as each game was called in the fifth inning because of the 10-run rule. Lauren Dillam led the way for the Greenville batters with six singles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Diane Aucoin got on base with two singles, two doubles and two walks while batting in three runs in the two games. Larsen had two singles a double and an RBI in game two and Amber Lavigne knocked in two-runs with a triple in game one. Jamie Craft added a single, a triple and an RBI in the second game.

Sally Jenkins led Averill of Hinckley with a two-run home run in the second game of the day. Natasha Gagne and Brittany Rauscher each singled on the day for the Beavers.
