TOWNSHIP 10 – A Machias woman escaped serious injury after she lost control of her motorcycle Friday morning and drove off the shoulder of the road, officials said.

Doris Davis, 53, was able to leap from the motorcycle just before it crashed into a rock, Trooper Alden Bustard of the Maine State Police said. Davis was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident and suffered minor injuries.

Davis’ Harley-Davidson motorcycle had an estimated $1,000 in damage, Bustard said. Speed was not believed to be a factor in the accident as the woman appeared to have been driving near the road’s 50 mph limit.
