Brewer Middle School

BREWER – On Wednesday, May 22, Brenda Mehan’s fifth grade class from Brewer Middle School helped prepare Chamberlain Freedom Park for a Memorial Day Dedication Ceremony of the North to Freedom Statue. There they picked up trash, raked, pulled weeds, painted, worked on the trails and more. Brian Higgins president of the Clewley Museum was on hand to present a talk on Maine and the Underground railroad.

Colleges

Columbia University School of Law

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Gavin Healy, son of Michael and Jan Healy of Bangor, graduated May 22 from Columbia University School of Law. He is a graduate of John Bapst High School and Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. He has accepted a position with Coudert Brothers in Manhattan.

Saint Michael’s College

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Emily Morse, daughter of Mark and Margaret Morse of Bangor, earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and psychology from Saint Michael’s College on May 12. She attended Bangor High School before entering Saint Michael’s.

Eastern Maine Technical College

BANGOR – Mark E. Griffard is an EMTC Student of the Year. A student in the building construction program, Griffard returned to college after retiring from the U.S. Army.

In addition to excelling academically with a 3.9 grade point average, he volunteers as a college tour guide and is active in Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Midcoast Maine. Last year he earned a gold medal in cabinetmaking in the Maine VICA/Skills USA competition. He went on to compete at the national level. He serves as the student member of the building construction advisory board.

Skidmore College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Kate Crotty of Holden and Alexandra Chapman of Winterport have received recognition from Skidmore College.

Crotty, a member of the class of 2003 at Skidmore College, has been elected to Skidmore’s Periclean Honor Society.

Seniors whose cumulative grade point average is 3.4 or more and juniors whose cumulative grade point average is 3.6 or more are eligible for membership.

She is the daughter of Stephen and Nancy Crotty of Holden.

Chapman, a member of the class of 2003, has received honors at the college this spring.

She is the daughter of Brenda Lawson of Winterport and John Chapman of Hampden.

Chapman was selected for membership in the Skidmore Honors Forum. Membership involves approximately 200 students selected for their academic accomplishments.
