BELFAST – The Belfast Historical Society and Museum will offer a special exhibit this summer titled “The Spirit of Belfast 1900-2000.”

Located in the Maine Gallery in the newly renovated lower level of the Belfast Museum at the corner of Church and Market streets, the exhibit will be open to the public from June 8 through Oct. 13.

Photographs, documents and artifacts from the museum collection tell the story of Belfast during the past 100 years.

Museum curator Megan Pinette designed the exhibit to complement the soon-to-be published “History of Belfast in the 20th Century” by Jay Davis and Tim Hughes. Reflecting the book, the exhibit addresses Belfast history topically in three distinct periods, 1900-1935, 1935-1987 and 1987 to the present.

The Belfast Historical Society and Museum is dedicated to the preservation and documentation of Belfast’s history and is a sponsor of the Belfast History Project.

Hours for the exhibit through Labor Day are 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Thursday through Monday.

After Labor Day, hours are 1-4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, or by appointment. Call 338-9229 for information.
