FARMINGTON – The 10th annual Humanities Conference on Northern New England in the Nineteenth Century will be held June 6-8 at the University of Maine at Farmington.

Many college history professors, independent historians and graduate students will present papers on a wide variety of subjects including American Indians, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poetry, women’s diaries, disasters, the Washburn family and others, according to a tentative schedule.

Public programs will be held both Thursday and Friday evenings, according to Billie Gammon, the event’s organizer.

Marian Faye Novak, a costumed storyteller, will relate the tale of her great-grandfather, a Civil War soldier, in a program Thursday night titled “The Westward Journey of Osborn Libbey.”

The program Friday evening will feature Franco-American music by the Leblanc family.
