Lindemann tosses 2-hitter as Broncos blank Wildcats

PRESQUE ISLE – Katie Lindemann fired a two-hit shutout to lift the No. 9 Hampden Academy Broncos to a 4-0 high school softball prelim win over the No. 8 Presque Isle Wildcats Saturday.

Ashley Ireland roped a two-run single for the winners. Kristina Spaulding and Evon Hudspeth had an RBI double each.

Marigan Bishop and Baillly Hobey singled for the No. 8 Wildcats.

At Houlton, the No. 7 Eagles took advantage of eight errors by No. 10 Washburn to roll into the next round.

Erin Mockler roped three singles for the winners.

Jamie Abar laced a three-run single for the Beavers.

At Harrington, Ashley Woodward pitched a three-hitter, notched 16 strikeouts, and issued only two walks to lead the Narraguagus Knights past Woodland in the Downeast Athletic Conference title game.

At Presque Isle, the No. 8 Wildcats stole eight bases to hold off the Broncos.

Adam Swanson had two singles and drove in three runs for the winners. Matt Corvell singled twice.

Evan Thomas slammed two homers and drove in three runs for No. 9 Hampden. Pat Mosan jolted a three-run homer to go with and RBI single and a double. Eric Libby launched an RBI triple and a single, and Kevin Brooks singled and doubled.

Jonesport-Beals 3, Bangor Chr. 2

At Jonesport, three bases-loaded walks in the fifth inning gave Jonesport-Beals the tying and winning runs.

Billy Merchant pitched a two-hitter while striking out nine and walking six. Singles by Abraham Beal and Ben Durkee were the Royals’ only hits.

Tyler Wilson led Bangor Christian with two singles. Both of the Patriots’ runs also came via bases-loaded walks.

At Sherman Station, the No. 8 Cougars pushed across seven runs in the first inning and never lost their stride.

Chris McNally spun a three-hitter for the winners, striking out seven and walking none. Lance Cunningham rapped a two-run single in the first. Travis Robinson had a triple, double, and drove in a run. McNally roped two doubles, a triple, and knocked in a pair. Justin Roy had two singles and two RBIs. Catcher Justin Stevens caught two runners attempting to steal.

Fred Clark laced an RBI single to spark the No. 9 Hornets. Bruce Oakes and Brandon Millett had a single each.
