FORT KENT – The No. 7 Orono Red Riots used a strong pitching performance from Michelle Benoit and a big single from Felicia King to upset the No. 2 Fort Kent Warriors 5-3 in a Class B division softball quarterfinal Monday.

Benoit, a junior righthander, allowed only two hits and struck out 15 to help the Red Riots advance to the semifinal round.

King, a sophomore, lined a two-run single to right-center in the top of the seventh to give Orono the winning edge. She drove home freshman Trisha Burke and junior Stacy Scott who had singled and walked, respectively.

Ashley Desjardins singled and notched a sacrifice fly for Fort Kent and Melissa Morneault doubled.

Limestone 20, Central Aroostook 8

At Limestone, Nikki Michaud drove in four runs and limited Central Aroostook to three hits in the No. 3 Eagles’ victory over the sixth-seeded Panthers.

Michaud had two doubles and a single and drove in the run in the fifth inning that gave Limestone a 12-run lead and ended the game.

Lindsey Beaulieu and Ashley Brooker had two singles and two RBIs apiece while Allison Beaton and Ashley Posey singled twice each for Limestone.

Gabrielle Smith had two singles for Central Aroostook of Mars Hill.

At Greenville, the No. 5 Cavaliers took advantage of nine Lakers errors and 13 walks to earn the win.

Loretta Fitzmaurice had two singles for Valley of Bingham.

Diane Aucoin and Jamie Craft had a triple and a single each for No. 4 Greenville.

At Bangor, Kara Hartman pitched a three-run, three-hit game, striking out nine as well as hitting a single and a double with three RBIs to lead the No. 2 Patriots to the win.

Heather Niles added two singles for Bangor Christian while Kendil Snow chipped in with a double and a single.

Nikki Ellington hit an RBI single for No. 7 Shead of Eastport while Samantha Davis and Brittany Lingley each contributed a single.

Class BCaribou 15, Orono 14

At Orono, the No. 5 Vikings took advantage of five Orono errors to score seven unearned runs in the sixth inning en route to a come-from-behind win over the No. 4 Red Riots.

Travis Snell smacked a two-run homer and a single for Caribou while Justin Selfridge added a solo homer and a double. Nick Chasse singled, doubled and knocked in two runs, Adam Fowler doubled and singled and Travis Beaulieu and Ryan Cousins added two singles each.

Mike Merritt drilled three doubles and a homer and knocked in two runs for Orono, which collected nine doubles and three home runs in the loss. Ryan Levesque added a two-run homer and an RBI single, Jeff Miller jolted a solo homer and a single and Pat Skall smacked two doubles and a single.

Derek Sinclair doubled twice, Brandon Terrill doubled, singled and drove in two and Tim Hilton singled twice.

At Dover-Foxcroft, Jason Weymouth and Josh Withee combined on a one-hitter, striking out 11, in a game halted by the 10-run rule as No. 3 Foxcroft eliminated No. 6 Fort Kent.

Rob Crocker paced the Ponies with a three-run home run, and a two-run double. Chris Chambers singled twice with an RBI and Weymouth doubled.

At Washburn, Jason Thompson pitched the first three innings, allowing no hits, striking out eight and walking four, as the No. 2 Beavers topped the No. 7 Panthers.

Thompson also singled, doubled and drove in a run for Washburn while Dan Buckley and Sam Harris contributed an RBI single apiece.

Kyle Larrabee led the Panthers of Mars Hill with an RBI double. Kyle Larrabee singled twice and Adam Crew singled in a run.

Danny Campbell added a home run and two singles while Scott Lavigne hit a homer and single. Grizz Aucoin contributed with a double and a single for Greenville while Rory Owens had two singles.

Phil Achey led Forest Hills of Jackman with two singles and Roger Paradise doubled.
