Katahdin High School
SHERMAN – Honor parts have been announced for the Class of 2002 at Katahdin High School. Graduation will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 8, at Katahdin High School.
Ashlee Martin, daughter of Terry and Maria Martin of Sherman Station, has been named valedictorian for the Class of 2002. She will attend Husson College to study nursing.
She is the senior class president, National Honor Society president, and has been active in student council, yearbook, dramatics, prom committee, Art Club, Ski Club and Cougarfest. She played softball and volleyball. She represented Katahdin High School at Girls State and attended the Med-Start Program at Husson College during her junior year. She was an Environthon participant, a peer tutor, and volunteered at the Agape Food Pantry, Mountain Heights Nursing Home, VFW, Great American Smoke Out, and church activities.
Mark Martin, son of Janelle and Michael Martin of Patten, has been named salutatorian for the Class of 2002. He will attend the University of Maine to study wildlife ecology.
He has been active in leadership through student council and National Honor Society. He has participated in yearbook, dramatics, Spanish Club, Ski Club, Art Club, Chess Club, prom committee, science fair and Cougarfest. He represented the school at Boys State, Ducks Unlimited, Environthon Team, and as an Earth Team volunteer. He has been active in volleyball, basketball, baseball and soccer. He received a letter for both soccer and baseball and served as co-captain of the soccer team. He was selected to participate in the Bigelow Lab Kellar Bloom Program and completed an internship with the Maine Atlantic Salmon Commission MERITS program. He received the Maine Scholars Achievement Award and is working on an internship with the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
