Wisdom upsets Limestone in eighth inning SAHS, East Grand gain victories

LIMESTONE – The Wisdom Pioneers scored one run on an error in the eighth and Jason Bouchard drove in Todd Thibeault on a groundout as the No. 6 Wisdom Pioneers edged the No. 3 Limestone Eagles 6-4 in schoolboy baseball playoff action Tuesday.

Andrew Gervais tripled and singled and Jason Bouchard had a pair of singles and two RBIs. Thibeault struck out 15 and walked five for Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Eric Crook’s two-out single in the bottom of the seventh scored Derek Patten to send the game into extra innings. Crook and Steve Hardwick had two singles apiece and Josh Knoll and Hardwick combined to strike out 12 and walked four for Limestone.

At Dyer Brook, Zack Philibert’s two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth broke a 6-6 tie and gave top seed Southern Aroostook its come-from-behind win.

Philibert drove home Zack Austin, who had doubled and gone to third on a throw to the plate.

Run-scoring singles by Corey Shields and Joe Putnam keyed a five-run fifth-inning rally that erased a 5-1 deficit.

Katahdin’s Chris Willigar tied it with a solo homer in the sixth.

Shields doubled and singled and drove in two runs for Southern Aroostook and winning pitcher Corey Edkins hurled a four-hitter with 12 strikeouts.

Lance Cunningham had two singles and two RBIs for Katahdin to go with Willigar’s homer.

At Danforth, Tim Irish’s sacrifice fly in the fifth inning gave the No. 1 Vikings the lead for good as they escaped the No. 8 Royals.

Scott Flannery hit a two-run homer in the first and added a single for East Grand. He also struck out six in 4 1/3 innings of relief. Darius Parker doubled and drove in two runs, and Chris Irish hit three singles.

Jared Alley led Jonesport-Beals with three singles and three RBIs. Kyle Mitchell contributed a two-run single in a third-inning rally.

Nate Poore had two singles for Machias, Day contributed a two-run double and Ed St. Pierre had two singles and an RBI.

Josh Bolton’s two singles and Evan Haskell’s RBI double led Deer Isle-Stonington.

At Eastport, Jason Bones and Gerald Homes combined to hold the No. 6 Knights of Charleston to one run and one hit as No. 3 Shead won in its Class D northeast division quarterfinal.

Bones held a no hitter through three innings with six strikeouts and one walk, but was relieved in the fourth by Gerald Holmes so he could pitch in Thursday’s semifinal contest. Ben Maloney led the Shead first-inning offensive with a two-run double as part of an 11-run inning.

Bones and Wes Ellington each had RBI singles for the Tigers of Eastport. Shead scored nine runs on walks and five others on passed balls.

Aaron White singled, stole second and scored on a RBI groundout to short by Nick Waite in the fourth inning for Highview Christian Academy.

Stacy Ayotte singled twice and knocked in a pair for the winners. Jeremy Chase roped a two-run double, and Matt Gagnon had two singles to go with an RBI.

Phil Rochford cranked an RBI triple for the Tigers. Jesse Fayers and Aaron Kenniston each had two singles plus an RBI. Jake Chambers had two singles.

Lee Academy scored six unearned runs and got RBIs on a Gerry Worster triple, a Franklin Grant single and a Bruce Stevens single. Stevens also scored three runs and stole two bases. Blair Emery tripled and singled for the Pandas.

Chad Pike led the Dragons with an RBI double. He also scored twice Andrew Knapp singled and stole two bases for Woodland.

Brad Goody hit a two-run home run in the Indians’ seven-run first inning. Ryan Brown and Andy Pease had a double, single and two runs batted in apiece, Joe Guerrette doubled and had two singles and Roger Cole drove in two runs with a double for Old Town.

Brian Trocalla had a double with two outs in the fifth inning for No. 6 Waterville to break up Rand’s bid for a no-hitter.

At Belfast, Nick Arthers’ leadoff homer in the sixth triggered a four-run uprising that proved to be necessary as No. 4 Belfast withstood a three-run rally in the seventh by No. 5 Mount Desert Island.

Devin Potvin had a two-run single and John Ellis added an RBI single in the sixth. Ben Cowan had a solo homer and an RBI double for Belfast.

Bodie Abbott had a pair of homers, a single and three RBIs for MDI. Brad Dalton had an RBI double and a single and Brian Greenleaf contributed a two-run single.

Matt Mountain hit a double and two singles with two RBIs to lead Dexter. Kyle Morrison had two doubles with one RBI and Kyle Stone had a RBI single.

At East Machias, No. 2 Washington Academy slugged five homers in turning back the No. 7 Knights.

Ryan Maker (three RBIs) and Steve Colbeth clouted back-to-back homers to highlight a five-run second inning that pushed the Raiders’ lead to 9-0.

Barret Craven added a three-run homer in the third, and Whitney Stevens had a two-run homer in the fourth and Ryan Harmon had a solo shot in the same inning.

Craven also had a single, and Nick Reynolds had a double.

Gabe Checker led Narraguagus of Harrington with a pair of singles, and Cory Worcester and Jamie Bailey had a single each.

Kevin Dube hit three singles and drove in one run for Madawaska, which had won eight in a row. Alex Daigle hit three singles and added an RBI. Steve Guerrette doubled, singled and drove in a run and Marc Garcia contributed two singles and an RBI.

Renwick’s homer, following a two-out single by Billy Sprague and a walk, built the lead to 7-3.

Blake Alley had a two-run homer for Sumner and Sprague singled three times and knocked in three runs.

James Gray hit a two-run homer for Central and Seth Strout singled twice and had an RBI.
