Foxcroft Academy’s Withee two-hits Hermon

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Sophomore Josh Withee spun a two-hitter, striking out eight and walking just two, to lead No. 3 Foxcroft Academy to an 8-0 win over No. 7 Hermon in a Class B Northeast Division semifinal baseball game Thursday.

Withee also rapped a double and a single for the Ponies. Robbie Crocker smacked a solo home run and a double and Chris Chambers contributed a double, a single and two RBIs.

Brett Danforth singled twice for Hermon.

At Bucksport, Nick Faulkingham pitched a shutout for No. 1 Bucksport while Adam Sheehan allowed only one run for No. 4 Belfast in a seven-inning duel.

Abram Allard hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to send home Kyle Mercer for the game-winning run. Jason Harvey added two singles and started a bases-loaded double play to Allard in the sixth that helped the Golden Bucks hold on to the lead.

Kevin Gray hit a double and a single for Belfast while Matt Olseon contributed with two singles.

At Hodgdon, Matt Day smacked a three-run home run and an RBI single to help lead the No. 3 Hawks to victory.

Ryan Blanchette had two singles and two RBIs for Hodgdon while Jimmy Griffin added a double and a single.

Colby Chase hit a two-run double for No. 7-seeded Penquis while Justin Allen helped out with a single.

At Blue Hill, Jake Lowell’s RBI double in the bottom of the seventh plated Hans Reuter as the No. 1 Eagles edged the No. 5 Tigers.

Reuter had walked, stolen second and reached third on Chris Sargent’s bunt single. Sargent finished with three singles and an RBI, and struck out six of the final eight batters of the game in a relief appearance. Lowell also hit an RBI triple in the first inning.

Blake Alley and Ricky Sprague each hit an RBI single for Sumner of East Sullivan. Justin Winslow doubled and singled.

Tom Lasko added a single and a three-run homer for the Lynx while Andrew Kites rapped two singles. Steven Whitney held the Minutemen to just four hits, striking out one and walking none.

Matt Wark, Matt Leino, Brad Cyr and Dave Michaud had a single apiece for Stearns.

At Dyer Brook, Corey Shields hit a double and two singles with two RBIs to lead top-seeded Southern Aroostook past No. 5 Van Buren.

Matt McCluskey had a double and a single with one RBI for the Warriors while Zack Austin hit two singles and drove in a run.

Andy Martin had a double and a single with two RBIs for Van Buren. Jeremy Chasse hit a double.

At Lee, senior Blair Emery pitched a five-inning one-hitter and helped his own cause by rapping a double and a single as the No. 2 Pandas advanced.

Emery struck out 11 and walked three. Gerry Worster drilled a two-run double and a sacrifice fly for Lee. Josh Thompson added a double, a single and two RBIs while Frank Severance singled twice.

Wesley Ellington singled to lead off the third inning for Shead of Eastport. He also stole a base.

Washburn 8, Wisdom 2

At Washburn, freshman lefty Jason Thompson fired a no-hitter, striking out 14 and walking three, and Trevor Thibodeau drove in four runs with a pair of doubles as No. 2 Washburn topped No. 6 Wisdom of St. Agatha.

Thompson, who also hit a batter, improved to 7-2 with his no-hitter.

Washburn erased a 2-1 deficit with a two-out, four-run third-inning rally.

Isaac Carney and Seth Milton had run-scoring singles before Thibodeau capped the rally with a two-run double.

Milton and Clint Carter had two singles and an RBI apiece to complement Thibodeau’s performance.

At Danforth, Richard Byers started a five-run sixth inning with an RBI single for No. 1 East Grand.

Josh Fish had a RBI single in the sixth to put East Grand ahead. Chris Irish had three walks and three runs.

Jared Day hit a two-run homer in the first inning and a double with three RBIs for No. 4 Machias. Ed St. Pierre hit a double and two singles.
