BSO outreach program recruits area schools

BANGOR – The Bangor Symphony Orchestra’s 2001-2002 season brought the first “Know Your Orchestra!” Education Outreach programs to students in central and eastern Maine. The positive results from the first year of programming has led to funding for next season’s outreach.

The Davis Family Foundation, the Maine Community Foundation and the Stephen and Tabitha King Foundation have given combined awards of $20,287 to the Bangor Symphony’s “Know Your Orchestra!” for this season.

Coordinated by Diane Kern, the program brings groups of musicians from each instrument category into schools to spend time with the students. The musicians lead workshops, demonstrations and perform for and with students.

“We are thrilled to be able to return to schools again next year and build on what we’ve already started,” says Diane Kern.
