Experience: 1989-1994, aide to Maine Secretary of State Bill Diamond. Most recently, served in Washington and overseas as a U.S. foreign aid officer, responding to political, humanitarian and economic crises in such war-torn countries as Cambodia, Haiti, Bosnia, Croatia, Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania and Serbia. In 1980s, worked nationally on three presidential campaigns and locally on a number of U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and Maine gubernatorial campaigns. Former member Maine Democratic Party’s state, rules, and campaigns committees, former chairman Androscoggin County Democratic Committee, former member Androscoggin County Charter Commission.
Top three priorities if elected:
. Generating new, better-paying jobs by fighting for more federal resources for higher education; worker training; transportation and communications infrastructure; and scientific research and development.
. Ensuring affordable, quality health care in Maine by supporting the establishment of a comprehensive national single-payer health insurance system that guarantees coverage for all.
. Bolstering our nation’s physical and economic security by supporting efforts to streamline and strengthen our country’s defense, trade and foreign policy strategies and institutions.
