OLD TOWN – Two men have taken out papers for one vacant seat on the Old Town City Council.

Voters will decide between Scott Gould and Alan Stormann to fill a seat left by Mary Bailey’s resignation last winter.

Bailey’s term officially expires this fall.

Polls will be open at locations throughout the city from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, for the election. People wishing to know where to vote may call the city clerk’s office at 827-3980.

Since Old Town holds its regular election schedule in November, there are no warrant articles for residents to decide.

The municipal and school budgets were approved last week by the City Council, leaving only the City Council seat to be filled by popular vote.

Gould and his family moved to Old Town from Greenville three years ago.

A former woodsman, Gould, 40, now works in photography and as a computer specialist.

He supports local schools, would favor regional dispatch if it could provide quality service for less money and thinks the city should eye the financial problems in Augusta and how they will affect accounts locally before pushing forward with building a new fire station.

Stormann, 53, works for the University of Maine’s Department of Public Safety.

He has been in law enforcement for nearly three decades.

A former city councilor, Stormann left the municipal post last fall because of an increase in work duties.

Now that those duties have leveled off, he wants to return to the board to support local dispatch, community policing and other issues.
