Searsport rallies by WA in 7th

EAST MACHIAS – Jerod Kronholm’s two-run homer in the top of the seventh helped lead the No. 3 Searsport Vikings to a 5-4 schoolboy baseball win over the No. 4 Washington Academy Raiders in a Northeast semifinal Friday.

Washington Academy had taken the lead in the bottom of the sixth, after trailing by three runs, with a pair of two-run home runs from Barret Craven and Jared Gray.

Don Rainer singled twice and drove in two runs for Searsport, and Marcus Quisenberry singled twice.

At Bucksport Thursday, Bucksport righthander Adam Sheehan shut out No. 4 Belfast while scattering seven hits to help the No. 1 Bucks advance.

Abram Allard hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to send home Kyle Mercer with the game-winning run. Jason Harvey added two singles and started a bases-loaded double play to Allard in the sixth that helped the Golden Bucks hold on to the lead.

Winslow 5, Camden Hills 3

At Camden, Eric Lopez came on in the bottom of the seventh for the Raiders with the tying runs on base and quickly closed out the game as No. 3 Winslow held on to upset No. 2 Camden Hills in Southeast Division Class B semifinal action.

Winslow’s Chris McInnis had held the Windjammers scoreless until the bottom of the seventh when Brady Butler hit a two-run bases loaded double and Caleb Peats connected for an RBI single.

McInnis also singled three times, scored two and drove in another. Dave Hamann had an RBI double and brought in a second run with a sacrifice fly. Dan Bibeau doubled twice and drove in a run for the Raiders.

After throwing out a runner at the plate from left field to end the top of the third inning, Camden Hills’ Tom Massey was taken to a area hospital after he was hit on an elbow as the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the inning. He was being evaluated at press time.

At Fairfield, Joy Ireland allowed only three hits while striking out seven to help the No. 1 Bulldogs eliminate the No. 5 Rams in the Northeast Division semifinal.

Stacey Dostie paced Lawrence with a two-run double and two singles. DeeDee Rogers chipped in with a two-run single during Lawrence’s five-run fifth inning.

Steph Chase doubled for Bangor, and Megan Huckins had an RBI single.

Skowhegan 5, Brewer 1

At Skowhegan, Amy Rowbottom did not allow an earned run or a hit and struck out 15 as the No. 2 Indians topped No. 3 Brewer.

Trailing by one in the bottom of the sixth inning, Skowhegan rallied for five runs behind a two-run double by Margo Shute and an RBI single by Megan Spear. Kristio Steward added a double for the Indians.

Brewer’s Amy Freeman reached base in the top of the first inning on an infield error, moved up to second on a passed ball, stole third, and scored on an infield error.

Jonesport-Beals 10, Bangor Chr. 9

At Bangor, run-scoring hits from Jonesport-Beals’ Hermena Beal, Sarah Beal, and Monique Emerson in the top of the seventh brought the No. 6 Royals back from a three-run deficit to upend the Patriots in Southeast Division semifinal action.

Sarah Beal finished with two singles, a double, and the game-winning RBI.

Kara Hartman struck out eight and walked two for Bangor Christian. Danielle Miller hit a pair of singles and a double while driving in two runs for the Patriots, and Kendil Snow added an RBI single.
