CUSHING – The Cushing Historical Society will present a program featuring Luthera Dawson on Thursday, June 13. She will be interviewed by historian Brad Beckett about life as it was in Cushing 80 years ago.
Dawson and her twin brother, Leroy, were raised in Cushing on Burton Farm, home to six generations of Burtons since 1736. In her book “Saltwater Farm,” Dawson describes the family homestead as “a busy, working place, vital and strong, not rich as money is counted.” She wrote that most Cushing residents in the 1920s lived as her family did, supplying their needs by farming, picking berries, hunting and fishing, with little dependence on outside help.
The public is invited to attend the program, which will begin after a short 7:30 p.m. business meeting, at the society’s newly restored barn on Hathorn Point Road. There is no admission charge.
