Presque Isle conference takes grief ‘journey’

PRESQUE ISLE – “A Journey Through Grief,” a conference for caregivers and professionals focusing on children and families, presented by grief counselor Dr. Alan Wolfelt, will be held at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Sept. 11.

Wolfelt will discuss topics related to bereavement and care giving. The target audience for this program includes educators, many of whom are faced with helping students grieve; parents and guardians; nurses, social workers, counselors, psychologists; human resource personnel, many of whom deal with grieving employees; hospice personnel and volunteers.

Wolfelt serves as director of the Center for Loss and Life Transition in Fort Collins, Colo. He also is on the faculty of the University of Colorado Medical School in the department of family medicine and is recipient of the Association for Death Education and Counseling Death Educator Award. Wolfelt is a contributing editor to Bereavement magazine, writes for numerous journals, and has written several books on grief and bereavement.

BRIDGES Transition and the County Health Education Resources Consortium, known as CHER, are collaborating with other co-sponsors for the conference.

The conference will conclude at 3:30 p.m., followed at 4 p.m. by a Sept. 11 remembrance service sponsored by University of Maine at Presque Isle Student Organization of Social Workers.

Brochures with registration form are being mailed to all Aroostook County schools within the next two weeks. Educators are encouraged to respond before the school year ends to ensure available space.
