UNITY – Andy Saunders of Ellsworth started on the outside of the front row and survived a mid-race challenge from Jeff Burgess of Oakland to win his first pro stock feature of the season at Unity Raceway on Saturday.

Saunders took the lead from Burgess on lap 15, but Burgess rebounded and retook the lead two laps later. The two battled side-by-side until Burgess spun out on lap 27. He wound up eighth.

Steve Nelson of Ellsworth finished second. Jim McGinnis of Detroit finished third in his season debut. Dean Fuller of Albion was fourth and Kris Huff of Orrington took fifth.

Wiscasset Raceway

At Wiscasset, Peter Oakes of Boothbay started back in seventh spot, but he roared to the front to take the lead from Paul Pierce on lap 10 then held off defending champion Scott Chubbuck to take the checkered flag in the Pro Stock feature.

Benton’s Dana Strout, who was forced to the back of field on a restart when he bumped Daren Ripley from behind on lap five, worked his way back through the field and finished third.

John Phippen of Bar Harbor finished fourth. Paul Pierce of Lincolnville was fifth.

Beech Ridge Speedway

At, Scarborough, Jackie Roussel of Portland led a tight pack to win his first NASCAR Pro Stock Series feature of 2002. Jason Fowler of Scarborough briefly took the lead, but Roussel came back to the top spot. Rookie David Oliver of Scarborough worked the second groove to pull side-by-side with Roussel on the final lap, but Roussel would beat him out by inches. Saco’s Steve Carrier finished third. Ryan Shepard of Buxton was fourth and Dan McKeage of Gorham finished fifth.

Oxford Plains Speedway

At Oxford Plains, Kevin Kimball and Glen Luce swapped the lead six times, but it was Kimball who triumphed with the win in the pro stock feature. He becomes the sixth different winner in as many weeks.

Luce started on the pole and led the first 27 laps before Kimball took the lead on lap 28. They swapped the lead five times in the final eight laps, never getting more than a half a car length advantage. Dennis Spencer, Jr. of Turner finished third. Mercer’s Jeff Taylor was fourth and Scott Moore of Anson finished fifth.
