Woodward pitches Knights into final Narraguagus star fires fifth no-hitter

HARRINGTON – Ashley Woodward fired her fifth no-hitter of the season, striking out 16 and walking just one, to lead No. 1 Narraguagus to a 12-0 win over No. 3 Hodgdon in a Class C Eastern Maine crossover semifinal softball game Saturday.

Woodward also led the offense with two doubles, a single and three RBIs while Missy Barbee added a two-run double. Liz Grant, Heather Fitzpatrick and Brook Couchaine each hit an RBI single for Narraguagus.

Shanna McGary pitched the entire game for Hodgdon while Sara Quint reached on an error.

Calais 5, Penquis 1

At Calais, Katie Frost scattered four hits, struck out 10 and allowed only one run and one walk while hitting two singles to help lead No. 3 Calais to victory.

Lanna Martin hit two singles and had three RBIs for the Blue Devils while Amanda Brown chipped in with two singles.

Arielle Sickler led No. 5-seeded Calais with an RBI triple.

Bucksport 9, John Bapst 2

At Bucksport, Kelly White carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning and was backed by 13 hits as the top-seeded Golden Bucks advanced to the regional title game.

Kim Meagher beat out an infield single to open the seventh, spoiling the no-hit bid by White, who struck out 10 and walked two.

Jessica Taylor and Jill Richards stroked three singles each to pace Bucksport. Jana Richards tripled and singled, while Ashley McAllian singled twice.

Jill Mitchell also singled for third-seeded John Bapst of Bangor.

At South China, Katie Mainville pitched a five-inning shutout for the No. 2 Eagles, allowing only two hits, striking out 13 batters and walking none.

Linda Horak sent home four runners with two singles, a double and a triple while Callie Thomas had a single, a double and three RBIs. Jamie St. Amand chipped in with three singles and an RBI.

Kirsten Stevens and Megan Ferland each hit a single for No. 4 Maine Central Institute of Pittsfield.

Fort Fairfield 10, Jonesport-Beals 9

At Fort Fairfield, Sabrina Butler put herself in scoring position with a double and was driven in by a Maranda Butler single in the bottom of the 10th inning to give the No. 1 Tigers the win.

Maranda Butler also added a single and a double for three RBIs while Keely Sayers hit two singles and a triple for two RBIs.

Jody Pinkam led Jonesport-Beals with three singles while Monique Emerson and Sara Hunkle helped out with two singles and an RBI apiece.

Lee Academy 12, Katahdin 5

At Lee, Jessie Keuster hit two singles to send in three runners and help give the top-seeded Pandas the edge they needed to defeat No. 2 Katahdin of Sherman Station.

Deidra Ham hit a double and a triple with two RBIs while Brittany Mallett helped out with two singles for the Pandas behind winner Katie Harris, who scattered six hits.

Krystle McMoarn was Katahdin’s only repeat hitter with two singles and an RBI.

Cony 6 , Old Town 4

At Augusta, Andy Smith singled in the fifth inning, stole second and third and scored on a base hit by Matt Pare to snap a 4-4 tie. Ray Vallee added an insurance run by stealing second and third and scoring on an overthrow.

No. 1 Cony improved to 17-2 while No. 3 Old Town finished at 14-4-1.

Brian Tewhey hit a two-run double in the first inning for No. 3 Old Town.

The first six hitters in the game reached base for Old Town on two walks and four hits. However, a double play by Cony second baseman Adam Vachon got the Rams out of the inning. Vachon tagged the runner going to second and threw to first to complete the double play.

Old Town belted out 12 hits, including four from designated hitter Andy Pease.

Class C

Mattanawcook 7, Searsport 2

At Lincoln, Fred Pete nailed a two-run home run in the bottom of the third inning to help carry the No. 1 Lynx past Searsport.

Tyler Libby contributed two singles while Andy McLellan hit an RBI double and Brian Dupuis added an RBI single.

Pasco Grove and Ryan Mitchell each had a double, a single and an RBI for the No. 3 Vikings while Mark Quinsenberry and Matt Mercier each chipped in with a double.

Lee 13, Southern Aroostook 0

At Dyer Brook, Lee Academy had four hits and took advantage of two Southern Aroostook errors to score six fifth-inning runs and end the game on the 10-run rule.

Jeremy Ham pitched the shutout for No. 2 Lee, allowing only two hits, striking out four batters and walking none. Blair Emery had a single and nailed a three-run homer while Bruce Stevens added two singles, a double and an RBI. Zac Currie chipped in with a double.

Griffin Hardy and Corey Shields singled to account for No. 1 Southern Aroostook’s two hits.

At Danforth, No. 1-seeded East Grand went 18-for-28 at the plate in five innings to capture the win.

Jim Zugelder cracked two doubles and a single and had five RBIs for the Vikings. Josh Fish scored three runs and hit a double and two singles and Darius Parker added a three-run triple. Tim Irish drove in two runs with two singles while Richard Byers contributed a double and a single.

Scott Flannery scattered five hits to earn the win.

Dan Buckley and Clint Carter each hit a double, a single and scored two runs for No. 2 Washburn.
