PITTSTON – A 17-year-old girl from Randolph died Sunday after an accident Saturday night in which she rolled her car over and was ejected.

Libby Hickey, a junior at Gardiner High School, was driving a 1991 Mazda on Route 126 when her car left the pavement, said Kennebec County Sheriff Everett Flannery.

Flannery said Hickey then overcorrected and drove her car off the road, where it struck a large rock and overturned.

Flannery said Hickey’s boyfriend, Todd Twadelle, 18, of Pittston, was also in the car after his graduation ceremony.

Hickey was taken to Maine General Hospital in Augusta and taken Sunday morning to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she died at 9:45 a.m. of head injuries suffered in the crash, Flannery said.

Twadelle was treated for minor injuries and released, Flannery said.

He said Hickey and Twadelle were both wearing shoulder harnesses, but did not their have lap belts buckled.
