CALAIS – Looking for something to do with your children this weekend? You could take them fishing.

The fifth annual Children’s Fishing Derby begins at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 15, at the Cobscook Bay State Park headquarters pond in the Edmunds Division off U.S. Route 1.

The event is sponsored by the Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge.

Registration will begin at 10 a.m., followed by a short course called Pathways to Fishing, then the fishing derby.

Participants must be accompanied by an adult or guardian while fishing.

Each participant should bring his or her own fishing pole and tackle. A limited number of rods and reels will be available. Hot dogs, drinks and chips will be served during the derby.

“Fishing is a healthy and wholesome activity that can be enjoyed by all,” the refuge said in a prepared release.

For information, call the refuge at 454-7161.
