I agree with your June 13 editorial on cigarettes and taxes, but don’t stop there.
What about alcohol, the most abused drug in the world? It causes a lot more problems than cigarettes, and if you could ever put a monetary value to domestic violence, drunken driving, lost work time, children killed, as well as the medical costs, you would find it far outweighs the cigarette bill.
So tax your cigarettes as much as you like, but also do the same with alcohol – at least before you consider program cuts and layoffs.
