The letter by Sebastian White (BDN, June 15-16), in response to Matt Rossignol’s letter (June 13), is in my opinion an even more glaring example of the un-Christian attitude White claims to despise. Love does not lose its temper.
In my reading, Rossignol discussed an issue, and wrote about an idea. But White has attacked the person who wrote rather than refute his idea. Jesus’ concept of love, if it is to be consistent with all of Scripture, does not include the kind of tolerance White wants. Love is concerned for the well-being of others and that includes warning people to avoid harmful behaviors. Homosexuality may not be as obviously harmfulto society as slander is, but the Bible clearly warns against both.
Rossignol’s discussion of the issue from the viewpoint of nature would seem to concur. I believe it was his effort to appeal to a logic that he thought all would follow irrespective of religious persuasion. It was a good effort that I applaud.
