Sumner hits new low
The Flanders Bay CSD School Committee has sunk to a new low. In a blatantly vengeful action, this board has abandoned all Sumner High School’s dedicated fall and winter coaches by advertising their positions in the local newspapers.
This move is obviously in reaction to the united stand taken in March by the spring coaches who resigned their positions in support of the varsity baseball coach who, at first, was not hired back. At a later meeting, the board reversed itself and all the spring coaches were hired back.
Since some of the spring coaches also coach fall and winter sports at Sumner, it seems to me that this current ploy by the board is direct retribution for the spring coaches’ magnanimous stand this past spring.
Once again Sumner athletes are left in the lurch and unfortunately, by the time this board is through, no one will want to coach at Sumner.

Softball team inspires
I would like to acknowledge the girls “B” softball team from James Doughty Middle School in Bangor. These young ladies, coached by Paul Butler, were truly remarkable in the improvements each and every one of them showed throughout the season.
They are an inspiration to us all.
