STANDISH – Kevin Sevigny scattered four hits to lead Sanford to a 9-1 victory over Oxford Hills of South Paris in the Class A baseball state championship game at Larry Mahaney Diamond on the campus of Saint Joseph’s College on Monday.

Sevigny, a senior, struck out eight, walked one and hit two batters.

The Redskins led 1-0 when they broke loose for seven runs in the third inning. Sanford was the beneficiary of three Viking errors in the uprising. Sevigny singled twice in the inning, while Jason Smith stroked a two-run single.

Ryan Lavertu doubled twice to pace Sanford, which closed out the season at 17-4.

Eastern Maine champion Oxford Hills (17-4) scored its only run on Jeff Austin’s solo home run in the seventh. Adam Batchelder singled twice for the Vikings, who stranded nine baserunners despite getting only four hits.
