BANGOR – Maine Public Radio’s Rich Tozier will host a live performance on his Friday night jazz show June 28.

Beginning at 9 p.m., singer Leila Percy and pianist Muriel Havenstein will perform some of their 1940s-era jazz favorites at Maine Public Radio’s Bangor studios. The performance is free and open to the public. Seats are limited. To attend the performance, contact Audience Services at 1-800-884-1717.

Percy, of Phippsburg, has been a part of the Maine jazz scene since 1987 when she was the vocalist for the Randy Bean and Company Band. Her energetic interpretations of classic tunes such as “It Had To Be You,” “Moonglow” and “Route 66” have charmed audiences up and down the coast. Percy is also a partner with Birdie Newman Katz of the musical comedy cooking show “At Home with the Singing Chef” broadcast on local access cable stations throughout central Maine.

Havenstein and Percy have been playing together for 13 years. A Brooklyn, N.Y., native, Havenstein has played professionally since she was 16. She performed with Estelle and Her Brunettes, a New York-based all-women’s swing band in the 1940s.

PORTLAND – Tickets are on sale now for what Maine Public Radio promises to be a politically incorrigible evening of fun when Capitol Steps takes to the stage Friday, Aug. 9, at Merrill Auditorium in Portland.

Starting at 8 p.m., the troupe of congressional staffers-turned-comedians will satirize the very people who once employed them.

For more than 20 years, Capitol Steps has depended upon political scandal, controversy, and misstep to fuel its brand of musical satire. Capitol Steps airs four times a year during holidays on Maine Public Radio.

Tickets for the performance are $30 and $24. Show and reception combination tickets are $45. Tickets can be purchased from noon to 6 p.m. Monday-Saturday at Porttix.
