WELLS – The arrest of a Maine couple in Arizona on drug charges prompted a search Thursday of their home and a self-service storage unit that yielded illegal drugs, authorities said.

Carroll Lane, 37, and Penny Searles, 32, were taken into custody Wednesday after a search of their car along U.S. 89 40 miles north of Flagstaff, Ariz., turned up more than five pounds of crystal methamphetamine, the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency said.

The two were being held at a jail in Flagstaff on charges of possession of dangerous drugs.

On Thursday, MDEA agents, Wells police and the Maine State Police tactical team searched Lane’s home on the Lindsay Road in Wells and the storage unit in Sanford.

MDEA Director Roy McKinney said the search yielded quantities of crystal meth and paraphernalia associated with drug distribution.
