Burgess rallies to capture Unity race

UNITY – Jeff Burgess of Oakland started second for the 35-lap Pro Stock main event, but overtook pole-sitter Bub Raven of Thorndike in the first lap and cruised from there Saturday at Unity Raceway.

Raven claimed runner-up honors. Pat Thibodeau of Winterport came in third, Albion’s Dean Fuller took fourth and Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders was fifth.

Short edges Rolfe in 100-lapper

At Oxford, Auburn’s Mike Short picked his way through the field early and took the lead on lap 33 in the Late Model Sportsman 100-lap main event. It was his first Late Model win at Oxford in his 12-year career.

Short pulled to a straightaway lead over Albany’s Ricky Rolfe and kept the same advantage for most of the race. With five laps to go, Chris Bowie spun out in turn four to bring out the caution, securing Short’s win.

Rolfe finished in second place. Travis Adams of Canton was third, Harrison’s Henry Hudson came in fourth, and Saco’s Terry Merrill took fifth.

Caution is the key for St. Peter

At Hermon, Mike Thomas of Etna was leading before a caution flag came out on lap 23, but Aaron St. Peter of Brewer took advantage on the restart to win the 35-lap Pro Stock feature Saturday night.

Andy Saunders of Ellsworth finished second and Thomas was third. Patrick Thibodeau of Winterport came in fourth and Duane Seekins of Stockton Springs finished fifth.

Young notches win

At Winterport, Raymond’s Greg Young edged out Stockton Springs’ Mike Johnson late in the Super Pro/Pro final to highlight Sunday’s racing action at the Dragway.

Wiscasset rained out

At Wiscasset Raceway, racing was rained out for the second week in a row and third time in five weeks. No makeup date was announced for the program, which was to feature a 25-lap flagpole division main event. Wiscasset does not have a weekly rainout date.
