A Bangor man in police custody told authorities that once released he planned to kill his ex-wife, prompting police to charge him with terrorizing in addition to the trespassing charge that had gotten him arrested in the first place.
It all started when Bangor police were called to Husson Avenue twice about an hour apart Tuesday night at the request of a 41-year-old woman who wanted her ex-husband, Steven Hasenfus, 43, removed from the premises. Hasenfus apparently had showed up to pick up his children, but his ex-wife told Officer Edward A. Mercier that she refused to hand them over in Hasenfus’ agitated and intoxicated state.
Warned once not to return, he was arrested after the second time he showed up on her doorstep.
En route to the jail, Hasenfus stated several times that he would kill his ex-wife, although he told Mercier the first time that he didn’t mean it, that he saw it in a movie, according to the police report. Mercier reported that Hasenfus seemed genuinely angry each time he made the statement about killing his ex-wife.
A Greenbush man still was being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center on Thursday night after the car he was driving rolled over on the Greenfield Road.
Justin Edwards, 21, told Penobscot County Sheriff’s Deputy Quint Goodall that he steered toward the side of the road as he approached the crest of a hill and it appeared that oncoming traffic was encroaching in his lane.
Edwards lost control along the side of the road and the 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier he was driving rolled over, landing on its wheels. Edwards was wearing a seat belt and the air bags deployed.
Edwards still was being evaluated at EMMC late Thursday night and the extent of his injuries wasn’t clear. Goodall said Edwards complained of hip and neck pain.
