3 towns to share tax, code services State-certified assessor to serve Medway, Millinocket, Woodville

MILLINOCKET – Starting today, Medway, Millinocket and Woodville will share tax assessing and code enforcement services.

Residents of the three towns who need the services should either call their respective town offices or may contact Mike Noble in his Millinocket office at 723-7005.

In addition to assessing and code enforcement, Noble also will serve as a licensed plumbing inspector and health officer for Medway and Woodville.

Noble was hired by the town of Millinocket, which, through contractual agreements, will provide the services to the neighboring towns of Medway and Woodville. Noble had served as Lincoln’s code enforcement officer for the past 18 months and is a state-certified tax assessor.

Conlogue said when residents leave a message on Noble’s answering machine, he will get back to them as soon as possible. He said the services would be provided in a friendly, customer-oriented way.

“We all will receive consistent and reliable service,” said Conlogue. “We have a chance to do something on a cooperative, shared basis with the other towns and, hopefully, it will set the stage for some future cooperative efforts.”

The Millinocket Town Council unanimously voted to authorize Conlogue to sign local agreements with the towns of Medway and Woodville during its meeting Thursday.

After debating the issue for more than an hour during the town meeting on Wednesday, Woodville residents authorized selectmen to contract with Millinocket and Medway for the services by a vote of 18-13. Some residents were concerned property values would rise and selectmen would have no say about property values. Selectmen, who also serve as the town’s assessors, assured residents, the shared assessors would be working for them as their assessing agent.

On June 12, Medway residents approved a two-year agreement for the services.

Costs for the shared services are as follows: Millinocket, $31,882.71, or 72 percent; Medway, $10,222.71, or 23 percent; and Woodville, $2,030.68 or 4.6 percent.
