Kane helps Navigators calm the Storm

DOVER-FOXCROFT – Joey Kane collected three hits, including a game-winning hit in the second game, as the Penquis Navigators swept the Sebasticook Storm, 7-4 in the opener and 5-4 in the second game Saturday in American Legion baseball action.

In the second game, Kane’s triple scored Seth Strout with the eventual game-winner.

Strout contributed a pair of singles for the winners. Brian White had a pair of RBI singles, Josh Watson singled twice and knocked in a run, and James Gray knocked two singles.

Steve Kennedy powered the Storm with a single, double and two RBIs. Josh Vile had three singles and drove in a run.

In the opener, Kane singled twice to spark the Navigators.

Jason Weymouth and Ross Morrison also singled twice for Penquis.

For Sebasticook, Kennedy whacked a double, single and pushed across a pair. Josh Veazie had three singles and knocked in a run, and Phil Hendrick roped two singles.

Lumber splits with Bangor

At Lincoln Saturday, defense and offense were featured in the twinbill, with the Lumber taking the opener 3-2, and the Comrades winning the nightcap 13-12.

In the first game, Andy McLelland, who had an RBI single earlier in the inning, scored on a bases-loaded walk to give Lincoln the victory.

Scott Flannery walked to force the run in. McLelland finished with two singles and an RBI. Nate Cousineau added a double.

Brian Worster singled, doubled and drove in a run for Bangor. Zev Myerowitz doubled and singled.

In the second game, Andy Tremble cranked a three-run homer to go with a double and a single as the Comrades salvaged a split.

Myerowitz, Ron Lane and T.J. Dowe each singled twice and knocked in a run for the winners.

Jeremy Ham sparked the Lumber with two singles, a triple and an RBI. Matt Malone laced three singles and knocked in a pair. Cody Thompson singled twice and drove home two, and Andrew Kites rapped two singles.

At Mansfield Stadium in Bangor Sunday night, Josh Heath struck out eight and walked only two in eight innings to lead Bangor.

Zev Myerowitz paced the offense with three singles, a double and three RBIs while Andy Sullivan added two doubles and three RBIs. Nate Hall added a double, single and RBI.

Mike Jacques doubled for Sebasticook.

Waldo-Knox sweeps Trenton

At Ellsworth Saturday, the Acadians outhit the Wildcats 15-12 but Waldo-Knox recorded two wins, knocking off previously undefeated Trenton 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader and 10-7 in the second.

In the first game, Ben Cowan hit an RBI single and John Bonney singled twice for the Wildcats. Chris Sargent led the Acadians with two singles, a double and two RBIs.

In the second game, Nick Arthurs drove in two runs on two singles and Chris Carman added two RBIs on a double and a single for Waldo-Knox. Cowan singled twice and had an RBI. Trenton’s Brandon Colbeth tripled, singled and had an RBI.

At Ellsworth Sunday, the Falcons withstood a seventh-inning rally thanks to a 21-run cushion.

Brewer’s Joel Barrett knocked in three runs on a triple and two singles. Brian Sullivan and Kyle Mercer each hit three singles and added two RBIs, while Jason Harvey hit three singles and drove in one run.

Jonathan Dow finished with three singles and an RBI for the Acadians. Blake Alley singled twice and had two RBIs.

Waldo-Knox wins pair

At Woodstock, New Brunswick Friday, Waldo-Knox swept the doubleheader with late game-winning hits from Kevin Gray and Parker Tootill.

Tootill’s two-run triple proved to be the game-winning hit for Waldo-Knox. John Bonney and Chris Carmen each doubled in the win.

Caleb Palmer struck out five in the loss but added an RBI double to aid his own cause in the first inning and later got on base with a single for Houlton-Woodstock. Nick Cole had an RBI double.

In the first game of the day, Gray’s RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning gave Waldo-Knox the go-ahead run. Tootill added two singles, a double and an RBI in the day’s first game for Waldo-Knox. Scott Phillips had an RBI double and a sacrifice fly for Houlton-Woodstock.

At Houlton, the two sides battled until 12:30 a.m. Friday morning as Brewer’s Jason Harvey nearly hit for the cycle in Thursday’s game.

Harvey sparked Brewer with a solo home run in the third inning, while adding a two-run triple and an RBI double in the later innings. Joel Barrett added a triple and two singles in the win.

Brewer sweeps Bangor

At Heddericg Field in Brewer Sunday, the hosts rode the pitching of Travis Reynolds and Aaron Jansen along with the hitting of Pete Saunders and Ryan Snell to record a twinbill sweep over Bangor 15-0 and 8-4.

In the first game, Saunders drove in nine runs as he cranked a three-run home run, doubled twice and singled. Snell singled four times and scored five runs while Billy Kane singled twice.

Their offense backed Reynolds who allowed only four hits while striking out nine and walking one.

Mark Reed doubled and singled for Bangor.

In the second game, Jansen two-hit Bangor and struck out eight, but walked seven. James Strout backed him with two singles and three RBIs while Jason Largay added two singles and Snell tripled and scored two runs.

Reed notched a two-run single for Bangor.
