Smith cruises to pro stock victory Bangor driver takes PASS break

HERMON – Bangor’s Gary Smith took the night off from his regular Pro All Star Series racing to earn a win in the pro stock division at Speedway 95 Saturday.

Smith took advantage of a lap-three crash that knocked the top three starters out of the race. He moved into first place before the halfway point.

Scott Alexander of Glenburn finished in second place and Ellsworth’s Andy Saunders was third. Dave McLaughlin of Harrington came in fourth and Mike Thomas of Etna was fifth.

Taylor breaks through at Oxford

At Oxford Plains Speedway, seven-time OPS Pro Stock champ Jeff Taylor of Mercer avoided a pair of early race accidents and posted his first feature win of the year on Saturday.

Taylor started 17th on the 28-car grid and led the final 11 laps of the race.

Brad Hammond of Turner finished second while Scott King of Livermore edged Glenn Josselyn of Farmington in a heated battle for third. Kevin Kimball of South Portland finished fifth.

Ripley posts first win of season

At Wiscasset Raceway, Daren Ripley of Appleton built a comfortable early lead and survived a late-race restart to post his first Pro Stock victory of the season on Saturday.

Ripley’s win was a valuable one: Saturday’s card of races featured “bonus” points, during which each finish is worth double the points a driver would normally accrue.

Series points leader Peter Oakes of Boothbay finished second in the race while Mark Lucas of Harpswell took third and Paul Pierce of Lincolnville was fourth. Jerry Babb of Windham wound up fifth.

Pinkham captures checkers

At Beech Ridge Motor Speedway in Scarborough, David Pinkham of Buxton earned a victory in the NASCAR Pro Series feature on Saturday.

Steve Howard of Scarborough was second while Jason Fowler of Scarborough finished third. Rick Frenette of Waterboro and Mike Field of Buxton rounded out the top five.
