MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Twins placed pitcher Matt Kinney on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a sore right shoulder.
General manager Terry Ryan said Kinney’s injury was not serious and developed during his start Saturday night against Milwaukee.
Kinney (2-7), a former Bangor High School star, allowed five runs and 11 hits in six innings, while walking two and striking out three in the 10-2 loss to the Brewers. After winning his first start of the season, Kinney has gone 1-7 in his last 13 appearances – 11 starts.
Kinney is 2-7 with a 4.64 ERA in 14 appearances in 2002, including 12 starts. He was called up from Triple-A Edmonton after starters Joe Mays and Brad Radke were injured earlier this year.
Ryan said Juan Rincon will likely take Kinney’s place in the rotation. The Twins will not replace Kinney on the roster until Monday.
