Bangor West, Orono-Veazie post wins Millinocket takes opener

GLENBURN – Pitcher Ian Edwards held Glenburn to only two hits while striking out 10 to help Bangor West record an 11-1 baseball victory in Little League All-Star action for ages 11-12 Monday.

Shane Walton hit a single and a three-run homer for Bangor West. Adam Sprowl had two singles with two RBIs and Ryan LaRochelle had a single and two RBIs.

Jon Doughty tripled and Ted Murray doubled for Glenburn while Jonathon Gagnon had a sacrifice fly.

Orono-Veazie 7, Hermon 0

At Orono, Seth Dwyer allowed only one hit and two walks while striking out 10 for Orono-Veazie.

Max Winter hit a double with three RBIs for Orono-Veazie. Pat McAleer doubled and knocked in two runs. Darren Casey-Covell added a double.

Bryce Stanhope singled in the fifth inning to breakup Dwyer’s no-hitter.

Millinocket 11, Orrington 10

At Millinocket, Cory Barnett hit a two-run home run in the second inning to help boost Millinocket passed Orrington.

Jared Manzo hit a pair of singles with one RBI for Millinocket. Tommy Jones had two singles with two RBIs and Charlie Osborne had a double and drove in a run.

Sean Murphy had two singles and two RBIs for Orrington. Joe Gagne added an RBI double.

Rockland 5, Waldo County 1

At Rockland Sunday, Luke Morrill struck out 13 while spacing out four hits and three walks to pick up the District 2 tourney victory.

Anderson Murphy singled and scored twice for Rockland.

Brad Dolan led Waldo County with a triple and scored the lone run. Willy Mayer gave up only two hits, struck out eight and walked two.

Softball, 11-12

Glenburn 13, Lincoln 7

At Lincoln, Glenburn players demonstrated strong hitting as well as good pitching as Vanessa Leture struck out eight.

Sam Beth hit two triples and a single with two RBIs for Glenburn. Kristen Sprague had a double and a single with three RBIs and Erica Hanson had a single and a double with two RBIs. Amanda Treadwell and Ashley Smith each singled, doubled, and knocked in a run.

Hillary Pelkey and Erin Anderson both hit a single and a double with one RBI for Lincoln. Carlita King singled and knocked in two runs.

Bangor West 7, Hermon 5

At Hermon, Lindsey Stevenson tripled in the winning run in the bottom of the fifth and trotted home with an insurance run after Erica Tweedie’s single.

Kristin Parker rapped a double, two singles and knocked in a run for Bangor West while Tweedie had two singles. Courtney Stevenson doubled.

Ashley Kelley singled, doubled and knocked in three runs for Hermon. Maggie Watson singled and doubled.

Bangor East 18, Holbrook 6

At Bangor, Amy Hackett allowed only one hit and four walks and struck out ten for Bangor East.

Hackett hit a home run, a triple, and a single with six RBIs for Bangor East. Hannah Griffin had four singles and Elena Papadakos hit a home run and a single.

Sheila Toomey doubled to have Holbrook’s only hit.
